Editing files stored on FTP Servers

PageSpinner 3 supports the External Editor Protocol that will let you edit files on an FTP server when using the latest versions of FTP transfer applications such as NetFinder, Interarchy and Fetch. These application all have a Edit in <Editor-name> menu item in the menu bar.

If you select a file on the FTP server and choose this command, the FTP client application will download the file into a temporary file on your disk and tell the selected editor to open the file. When you then save the changes made in the editor, the file is automatically uploaded back to the server.

Below you'll find information on how to make PageSpinner your default ftp-editor.

In NetFinder you can select PageSpinner as the ftp-editor in the Action section in NetFinder's Preferences or by simply enter the PageSpinner creator code, JyWs, in the creator code field.

FTP clients like Interarchy and Fetch use the editor application selected in your System's Internet Preferences Helper Apps section:


Open the Internet preferences from PageSpinner's Preferences Menu or from the System's Control Panels menu.

Click the Advanced tab and select Helper Apps from the list.

Click the Add button.

Enter ftp-editor in the Type field.

Click the Select button and navigate to choose the PageSpinner application.

Optionally, enter a description in the Description field.

Finally, click the OK button.
